A state you must dare not enter
with hopes of staying,
quicksand in the marshes, and all

the roads leading to a castle
that doesn't exist.
But there it is, as promised,

with its perfect bridge above
the crocodiles,
and its doors forever open.

oh, and just to be all unbearably smug, guess who's got tickets to see the Scissor Sisters on Monday in Glasgow?

Oh, yes, that's right. it's ME!

mwah-ha-ha.

And another hideous mutant says......

[music |Scissor Sisters - Ooh]

Well. Got back from the Lake District about 7pm today. was back at home home for the back of 5pm, but it took me that sodding long to travel the 20 miles out to Loanhead... grrr. *anyways* I digress. Was a fun weekend. Was away in the Lake District (near Keswick, if anyone's interested) with my sister and my parents for a family "get together" with my aunt, uncle and our cousins. We don't see them that often, so it's always weird and stilted conversation wise - I especially find it hard to judge how much detail to give when they ask me about my life - how much is too much, etc. So was weird in that respect, but otherwise v enjoyable. Ended up having to wade thru one of the said Lakes (Derwent Water) as we walked around it. There's a marshy area to the south of the lake, and the footpath crosses it by method of raised kinda boardwalks. Well. there's apparently been shitloads of rain recently, cos we got to this bit to discover that most of the boardwalk was underwater.... We'd already walked about 4 miles from where the ferry dropped us off, and we could see (and almost *smell*) the pub, so we decided that it couldn't possibly be *that* deep, and proceeded to wade through it. Ended up knee deep in brackish water... and I'm sure the sheep were laughing at us. ach well.

also went to the local Alpaca Centre before heading back up the road today. SOOOOOOOOO cute. For those of you that will have the (mis?)fortune to actually see me in real life over the next week or so, I can show you the (what seems like) millions of photos I took on my mobile. They really are too cute. I would have abducted one, but apparently they should only ever be kept as groups - they can't cope with being on their own - and i didn't fancy smuggling two alpacas in the car with me. I *think* Mum and Dad may have noticed two. Meh. Despite consuming all the Kendal Mint Cake I "liberated" from my hotel room (they kept replacing it, the fools), I am now absolutely exhausted and must head off to bed.

more on uni stuff tomorrow, hopefully.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaah. Feel v v v v v v left out.... it seems like everyone I know was involved with fresher's week at HWU this week. I really really REALLY wanted to be there, but t'was obviously impossible. I miss being @HWU, I know next to nobody at Edinburgh, and those that I do know are either postgrads or fourth years who barely have time to eat and sleep, let alone spend time with me. I now know one girl, Sarah, in my Sociology class, but as yet, two weeks in, nobody in either of my geography modules. I knew it wasn't going to be easy to integrate myself into this but it's kinda hard. Having said that, because I don't sit with anyone in "Environmental Sensitivity and Change" or "Economic and Political Geography" I tend to pay more attention than i might normally do. About ten times, compared to the averare HWU chem lecture! I suppose familiarity breeds contempt. The work load is a lot harder than I'd thought, but it's all good. I think I'm following all the stuff I've covered so far, which is encouraging. E&PG is really fascinating, as is sociology. Currently spending most of my time in the Library - if I have time between lectures, it's never enough time to come back to the flat and back in, so I generally go and rewrite lectures or work on tutorial stuff.

not much else new to tell, i guess. have said I'm going to be out of the flat by the end of october, so also frantically trying to find somewhere to live. Went to see a flat today, but there's apparently quite a few people interested, and I got the feeling that I'm not high on the list. I dunno. it was a wonderful flat, and not that expensive for the area and the facitilies (£275), but, I dunno. we'll see. If ANYONE reading this knows of ANYONE who needs a flatmate or is looking for a place PLEASE let me know asap. I'm getting desperate.

[music |Jason Mraz - Life Is Wonderful]

Meh. Went to the pub quiz at the Chanter last night with Sam, Kate, Suzanne, Martin, Tamsin and her flatmates, and came second by ONE point. ONE frickin point! And I can happily state that I was useful - there were at least two questions that I knew the answer when nobody else did! We did win a bag of mini Bountys though, which wasn't to be sniffed at. Although, I tend to sniff at everything at the moment, becasue I can't seem to shift this cold. Meh.

So. Uni has started, and it's all a bit of a culture shock. I've had so much information in the past few days I feel like my head is spinning. It turns out that in second year geog, I have roughly half the contact time I had with chem. Which is decidedly weird. The lecture material of all three half courses I'm sitting at the moment seems really interesting, and the Sociology material will really complement some of my geography stuff. I should go, for I have not showered or dressed yet, and I have a lecture at 2pm. This will be my first lecture of actual lecture material as opposed to orientation stuff. It's all so exciting!

Adios amigos!

[music |All I Really Want - Alanis Morrisette]

Today has been/will be a gooooood day. First off, have survived well over 24 hours with my mother, and we didn't argue ONCE!! I must be growing up or something. Went home on Wednesday afternoon, spent Thursday doing pretty much bugger all, and came back about lunchtime today. Didn't have my straighteners with me, so my hair was pretty dodgy at best today. Went into River Island to buy a beanie hat (i've wanted one for ages, so I can wear it to and from the pool). and got distracted by a cool pair of  shoes, of the type i've been idly looking for for about six months! Ironically they didn't have my size in Dunfermline, so I got them at the St James Centre branch. I shouldn't really have bought them, but I've been looking for a pair like it for ages, and i figure shoes are an investment. Like, oh my God, shoes!! Have just had the nicest baked potato, and a bowl of cheap-ass Asda icecream that is just the best ever. Plus, I'm going out with Martin later!! yay. All in all, today's been good.

P.S. Ewan, can you comment and gimme the link to that video for the "Oh, My, God!! Shoes!!" video? ta muchly xx
